Heparin Contaminated by Chondroitin Sulfate
FDA not saying ingredient that mimics heparin was added deliberately
Federal investigators have determined that the contaminant found in the active pharmaceutical ingredient in heparin in the United States is a chemically altered form of chondroitin sulfate. Baxter has received reports of as many as 19 deaths and more than 700 adverse events that may have been associated with administration of its heparin products.
 
Endoscopy Center Closed after Infections
Staff used vials for multiple patients and reused syringes
An endoscopy center in Las Vegas was closed after patients there contracted hepatitis C—and the facility's reuse of syringes and single-use vials for more than one patient may have caused the problem. Although a case at a different Las Vegas endoscopy clinic was identified more recently, that clinic has not been closed.
 
 
Allergen Levels Linked to Asthma

An elevated level of allergens in homes is associated with increased allergic symptoms in people with allergies, according to a nationwide study.
